Arsenal reveal Danny Welbeck leaving Gunners in shock announcement

Arsenal have revealed Danny Welbeck will leave the Gunners this summer following an on pitch announcement.

England international Welbeck is out of contract at the end of this season but no official memo had been made about his future.

But during a post-match presentation following Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Brighton it was revealed Welbeck will become a free agent this summer.

Chairman Sir Chips Keswick made the announcement on the PA system: “His presence will be missed in the dressing room.”

Manager Unai Emery confirmed the exit in his press conference.

The Spaniard said: "I spoke with the club and the decision is he is going to leave."

Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech were also handed gongs on the Emirates pitch.

Welbeck has only managed 14 appearances for the Gunners in an injury plagued final season in north London.

The 28-year-old joined from Manchester United in a £16million move in 2014.

Welbeck was part of the Gunners' 2017 FA Cup winners team and also finished as a runners-up in the League Cup a year later.

Welbeck will depart Arsenal having made 126 appearances over five season - with 32 goals.

It is unsure where the forward will move to although Newcastle have been linked to him in the last few days.
