Arsenal release statement on Alexandre Lacazette video and confirm matter is deemed serious

Arsenal have released a statement after a video of Alexandre Lacazette inhaling from balloons emerged in the Daily Star on Saturday night [May 16].

This comes 18 months after the striker was issued a warning for using nitrous oxide. That time, the Frenchman was seen alongside Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"This is a private matter which we are taking seriously. It will be handled internally." a club spokesman told football.london in response to the situation arising.

Alongside the footage that was released, the Daily Star reported that the striker sent texts that he was "at home, chilling and doing balloons".

This isn't the first time Lacazette's conduct has been brought into question since lockdown, however, as the 28-year-old was one of four players to have broken government rules in April.

He was spotted talking to a car valeter on his driveway, Nicolas Pepe met with his friends to play football whereas David Luiz and Granit Xhaka met in a Southgate park.

Since then, Arsenal have responded by opening London Colney to their players to ensure their safety during a time at which the entire footballing community is at a stand still.

As reported by football.london on Saturday [May 16] , plans are in place for Arsenal to take a step into having group training sessions, understood to be in groups of five.

Players have been at London Colney for the past three weeks but have maintained social distancing while training, having one pitch to each player, their own footballs to work with and a rota to ensure they arrive at their own designated times.

With the Bundesliga returning, that has offered the Premier League hope of doing the same. The prospect of football returning in England is something that has pleased Granit Xhaka in particular.

Posting on his Instagram he wrote: "We are back at practice, but first in small groups.

"I can't tell you how happy I am to kick with my colleagues again.

"Even though we are still far away from our regular work! I wish you a good weekend and stay healthy!"
