Arsenal 'reignite transfer interest' in Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes

Arsenal have kickstarted their interest in Atletico Paranaense's Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

The Gunners were keen to sign the defensive midfielder in the summer - with Chelsea and Atletico Madrid also being linked with him.

Guimaraes played 25 times for Paranaense in the Brazilian Serie A last season, and was also a regular in their Copa Libertadores campaign.

He has played for Brazil's under 23 side but would likely circumnavigate employment visa issues through his Spanish passport.

"The interest of other teams, I see that it’s normal when the person has been playing well," Guimaraes said last September.

"I leave that in the hands of my agents. I’m happy at Athletico and focused on the final."

Arsenal have reignited their attraction to Guimaraes with Granit Xhaka looking set to leave north London in January, according to the Daily Mail.

Midfielder Xhaka sat out of the Gunners' defeat to Chelsea on Sunday due to an illness, although he has been linked to Hertha Berlin wanting to sign him in the transfer window.

When asked whether Xhaka would leave next month, Arteta said: “I hope not.

“He played at Bournemouth . He did really well, very committed played a really good game and after the game he started to feel ill and temperature. He was not feeling good and been in bed for two days and that is why not selected.”

Spaniard Arteta, who has been in the Arsenal hot seat for two weeks, spoke about his plans for January recently.

"We need players back from injuries, first of all, to be more solid, more compact," he told Sky Sports.

"And then we might need to do one or two things if the right players become available, to help us.

"But at the moment I am more concerned with getting the maximum out of the players available to us."
