Arsenal receive update on Eddie Nketiah red card appeal ahead of Tottenham clash

Arsenal have failed in their appeal over Eddie Nketiah's red card against Leicester.

The Gunners forward was shown a straight red card during the 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, just minutes after stepping off the bench.

After a long VAR check, Nketiah was eventually dismissed for catching Foxes defender James Justin on his knee, with referee Chris Kavanagh deeming it as serious foul play.

The red card proved costly for the Gunners as Leicester drew level late on thanks to Jamie Vardy's 22nd league goal of the campaign.

Arsenal 1-1 Leicester: Mikel Arteta press conference

After the match, Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta was furious with the decision and Arsenal had appealed the decision.

But his dismissal and suspension has been upheld, meaning he will miss Arsenal's next three games - against Tottenham and Liverpool in the Premier League, as well as next week’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City.

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer believes Kavanagh made the correct call to send the Arsenal striker off.

"I think it is the right decision," the former England international said.

"I think he is high and I think he is endangering an opponent and in today’s world, it is a red card.

"It was very high, so I thought that was the right decision, a red card."
