Arsenal receive Thiago Alcantara boost as Bayern Munich chief offers Liverpool confirmation

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Liverpool are yet to contact Bayern Munich about Thiago Alcantara.

The midfielder is set to leave Bayern this summer as he seeks a new challenge with just a year left on his contract in Germany.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool but, speaking to Bild, Rummenigge revealed that he had yet to hear any contact from Anfield over the 29-year-old.

The ultimate lowdown on Houssem Aouar

Despite that, the Bayern chairman seems resigned to letting the Spaniard leave, revealing that their post-match celebrations after winning the Champions League took on an extra significance for the player.

He said: "We always read a lot about Liverpool, but they haven't contacted us yet.

"Yesterday we had the appointment with our employees and his whole family was there and they wandered around the square in great nostalgia (in the Allianz Arena), I would almost say.

"That looked a lot like goodbye, as if he had made up his mind."

It is good news for Arsenal, who have become linked with the midfielder in recent days.

French transfer expert Patrick Moreau has claimed that the Gunners have been in contact with Thiago, with manager Mikel Arteta directly ringing his compatriot.

Whilst Liverpool no doubt remain favourites to sign Thiago, their seeming reluctance to contact Bayern over the player suggests that they have little interest in the player.

If that is the case, the Gunners will be boosted in their hopes of being able to sign the former Barcelona star.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen their midfield this summer and appear to have dropped their interest in Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey after failing to come to an agreement over a deal to sign him for less than his release clause.
