Arsenal receive huge injury boost as Gabriel Martinelli's scan results emerge

Arsenal have received a huge injury boost in the form of Gabriel Martinelli.

Martinelli has played an important role in the Gunners' recent resurgence, featuring in three of the club's last four Premier League outings with Mikel Arteta's men winning their last three league outings.

But the winger was an absentee from the Gunners' FA Cup clash with Newcastle United after sustaining an ankle injury in the warm-up with Arteta revealing the setback after the game.

“I imagine we are not going to have good news with him,” said the Gunners boss initially in a statement that left fans feeling rather concerned.

The Spaniard yesterday added: "We don’t know how bad he is. He’s getting a scan this morning. We didn’t look after the game because he was in a lot of pain but yesterday he tested it a little bit better, so let’s hope.

“We have a scan today so let’s hope it’s not as serious and we can have Gabi back really soon. We will know more tomorrow, certainly.”

And the results from that scan are in with good news. The Guardian have reported there is no significant damage to the ankle and that Martinelli could be in for a much speedier return than previously thought.

It's reported Martinelli will miss Arsenal's clash with Crystal Palace on Thursday but could well be back in action by the time Arteta's men face Newcastle United again on Monday, this time in the Premier League.

The news is the latest boost for Arsenal whose injury list is now rather promising with the return of Thomas Partey and also Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of the trip to Selhurst Park.
