Arsenal receive huge fitness boost as Gabriel Martinelli provides update on knee injury

Arsenal have received a huge fitness boost with Gabriel Martinelli making progress on his return.

Martinelli was initially ruled out until the end of the year with a serious knee injury.

But the forward now says he could be back in training for Arsenal soon after making rapid progress in his rehabilitation.

“I’m feeling very well, I’m regaining confidence and I can feel my knee is better,” he told the Arsenal website.

“After an injury like this you are kind of scared to force the knee again but the past couple of weeks it has been fine and soon I can start training with the ball."

The young forward picked up the injury in training back in June having impressed before the season was temporarily shut down in March.

Martinelli had scored 10 times in all competitions during his first season with the Gunners following his 2019 move from Ituano.

But a combination of the coronavirus interruption and the knee injury saw the 19-year-old's season cut short.

This update, however, will be a huge boost to Arsenal fans and indeed Martinelli himself, who will be keen to contribute to what has been a fine start to the new season from the Gunners.
