Arsenal rearrange press conference ahead of Mikel Arteta appointment

Arsenal have rearranged their scheduled press conference ahead of Saturday's game with Everton as they prepare to appoint Mikel Arteta as manager.

Their pre-match press conference was due to take place on Thursday afternoon with interim boss Freddie Ljungberg expected to take on media duties.

But the press conference has now been put back until tomorrow (Friday) as they close in on the appointment of Arteta.

Former midfielder Arteta looks set to take over as Unai Emery's permanent successor and is believed to have agreed a deal with the Gunners.

But the deal is in the process of being ratified and compensation being agreed with angry Manchester City , who claim not official contact has been made regarding their assistant coach.

Arteta, 37, has agreed to take the job after negotiations on a three-and-a-half year contract.

The deal has been signed off by Josh Kroenke with paperwork being completed and hopes Arteta will take charge of his first game at the weekend.

He has also been backed by Arsene Wenger, who said this week: “I believe that Arteta has certainly a great future, he has certainly learned a lot in his first position as an assistant coach.

The Gunners are on the verge of confirming Mikel Arteta as their new manager (PA)

“After that as well he will have to deal with the fact that he has no experience at that level and he will have to get surrounded well, have a good environment at the club.

“The most important thing is that every club, Arsenal especially, is built on special values. Inside the club, people have to take care of that. That is the most important thing.

“What makes a club great is the values of the club. You have to be faithful to that and continue to develop that and he will have to respect that if he comes in.

“The club has to make the right decisions. It is built on good values and good players. The club has to get those two together.

“I will support him, just as I have supported Freddie Ljungberg and I support Arsenal.”
