Arsenal are ready to walk away from their pursuit of Aaron Ramsdale after failing to agree a deal with Sheffield United.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been chasing Ramsdale all summer with the Championship club demanding £30m for the keeper who was called up to England’s Euros squad.
Arsenal believed they were making progress and held lengthy discussions on Wednesday but talks have broken down after they could not agree a fee.
Arsenal have made two previous offers which were knocked back but we’re hopeful of a deal which would include add-ons as they seek back-up and competition for regular No1 Bernd Leno.
That deal looked on but they have been unable to reach a solution and the Gunners could be ready to look elsewhere with the Bades steadfastly refusing to budge on their £30m valuation which Arsenal think is too high.
Arsenal have also been keen on United’s Sander Berge and have had a conversation but a keeper is the priority.
They have also looked at Ajax keeper Andre Onana who is serving a ban but may now have to look again or switch targets with no breakthrough in Ramsdale.
United will be keen to keep hold of Berge who has also been interesting Everton but are bracing themselves about having to sell big players after being relegated last season.
Berge, 23, is more of a box-to-box player than the creative force that Arsenal are looking for but so far have had no joy with Leicester ’s James Maddison while they are watching developments on Real Madrid ’s Martin Odegaard who was on loan at the Emirates last season.
