Arsenal reach final Viktor Gyokeres agreement as Sporting give green light for medical

Viktor Gyokeres has been given permission by Sporting to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Arsenal.

Arsenal are set to pay €63.5million (£55m) up front, with a further €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons to land the Swedish striker.

Gyokeres has reportedly already agreed personal terms on a five-year contract with Arsenal, as they were his destination of choice this summer.

Arsenal and Sporting have been in talks for weeks over a fee for the 27-year-old, who scored 54 goals in all competitions last season.

Gyokeres has not been in pre-season training while negotiations have continued and he has instead been waiting for the green light to complete his move to Arsenal.

Standard Sport understands Gyokeres has now been given permission by Sporting to undergo his medical, which will take place in London, before putting pen to paper with Arsenal.

The Sweden star will be Arsenal’s sixth signing of the summer and will take their spending north of £150m and towards the £200m mark.

Arsenal have already completed moves for Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi and Noni Madueke.

The signing of Gyokeres will end Arsenal’s long search for a new striker, which they have been on the hunt for since last summer.

Arsenal have looked at multiple targets in that time. Last summer, they tried to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, while in January they had an offer for Ollie Watkins turned down by Aston Villa. They are also long-term admirers of Alexander Isak.

Gyokeres boasts a stunning goalscoring record from his time out in Portugal with Sporting, where he has been for the past two seasons. The Swede scored 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting.
