Arsenal re-sign scout from Man Utd who left Gunners after 10 years at club

Arsenal have reportedly re-hired scout Sandro Orlandelli from Manchester United.

Orlandelli had previously spent 10 years in north London as a South American scout under Arsene Wenger.

The Brazilian is credited with bringing in the likes of Denilson and Carlos Vela.

He had also been working with the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) before joining Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in 2016.

Orlandelli had remained at the club since the Portuguese's sacking but has now secured a return to the Emirates.

Arsenal sporting director Edu made the move to bring back Orlandelli, to boost the club's South American scouting pool, reports Brazilian journalist Marcus Alves.

Speaking at the World Scouting Congress in November, Orlandelli was vocal in his criticism of United's decision to sack Mourinho.

"Jose Mourinho spent so little time at Manchester United to do a job worthy of such a big club,” he said.

The Brazilian maintained the club were in the process of restructuring and it is unclear if his comments played any part in his departure.

Arsenal are keen to strengthen this month but boss Mikel Arteta concedes they are only likely to make loan additions.

A central defender is a priority after a long-term injury blow to Calum Chambers.

RB Leipzig's Dayot Upamecano has emerged as a target while Juventus defender Merih Demiral.
