Arsenal quoted £38m for Brazil midfielder and Edu already has January transfer funded

Arsenal have been given a quote if they are to push through with the signing of Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes, and to their advantage a transfer for him will have already been funded.

According to Brazilian outlet Globo, the Ligue 1 side are set to demand £38m million for their defensive midfielder Guimaraes.

Arsenal will be able to afford this deal due to the incoming funds from the sales of Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and now possibly Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

The north London are certainly in need of a central midfielder, and the club have been linked to Guimaraes in the past, so it is certainly a deal that the club could revisit.

According to transfer experts Fabrizio Romano and Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal are set to send Ainsley Maitland-Niles on loan to AS Roma once the January transfer window opens.

The 24-year-old’s game time has been extremely limited this season, which was an issue the Englishman had complained about at the start of the season.

If a loan-to-buy option is included in the transfer deal, then Arsenal would be set to receive a healthy amount of funds for the Hale End academy graduate.

This type of transfer deal is a route Edu has used in the past and it is currently ongoing with Torreira, as The Uruguayan midfielder agreed to go on loan to the Italian side Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal inserted an option-to-buy clause before accepting a loan for the midfielder, which will generate the club around £15m.

Guendouzi was also loaned out to Marseille after reportedly falling out with Mikel Arteta, and the Frenchman has confirmed his departure from the club, as he said:” “If the club stays in Ligue 1, I’ll stay at OM. I signed to make a long-term commitment here.”

The Frenchman’s loan move to the Ligue 1 side was included with an obligation-to-buy unless the club were miraculously relegated.

With the sales of all three players in Maitland-Niles, Torreira, and Guendouzi, it means that Arsenal would be able to complete the signature of Guimares in what would be a low-risk deal.

Arteta’s side needs more strength in depth the middle of the park and the signing of the Brazilian midfielder would certainly go a long way in achieving that.
