Arsenal put on special service for away fans for Manchester United season-opener at Old Trafford

Arsenal are trialling a chartered train service that travelling fans can use for their opening game of the Premier League season away at Manchester United.

The club have launched the pilot initiative in an attempt to improve the match-day experience for travelling supporters.

The scheme also ties into Arsenal’s aim of being net zero with their carbon footprint by 2040.

The train chartered by Arsenal will be able to take just under 500 fans from London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly on August 17 for Arsenal’s first game of the season at Old Trafford.

It will also stop at Watford Junction on both legs of the journey, with supporters able to board the train there.

A return ticket on the service will cost £90 and fans can buy them via a new portal that is available on Arsenal’s ticketing information page.

Arsenal have advised fans that they will need to make their own travel arrangements between Manchester Piccadilly and Old Trafford for both legs of the journey. Consumption of alcohol on the chartered train service is also prohibited.

The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust have supported the pilot initiative and expressed a hope it is used for further away games.

Travelling to matches has become increasingly expensive for supporters, who often also have to deal with train delays and cancellations.

“Very pleased to see Arsenal chartering a train for the first away game at Old Trafford,” the AST wrote on social media platform X.

“This will give fans the choice of an affordable and dedicated service to attend the match. Hopefully this will become a regular feature, especially for games where public transport isn’t easily available #NetZero”.
