Arsenal 'push ahead' with £46m transfer bid as Mikel Arteta recalls two players into squad

Welcome to The Arsenal Way daily round-up where we take a look at some of the best Arsenal stories that you might have missed.

Arsenal have made an offer for one of Mikel Arteta's top transfer targets as the Spaniard prepares for multiple striker exits.

Roma place an official bid for Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the table, however, the Gunners are yet to reply with a definitive answer.

Meanwhile, Hale End graduates are recalled as Per Mertesacker draws up January loan plans.

Let's take a look at the above stories in more detail.

Arsenal make Vlahovic approach...again

Arsenal have made a new offer for Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic, with the intention of signing him in January.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the latest offer from Arsenal is valued at €55 million (£46m) in instalments plus the permanent sale of Lucas Torreira. This would bring the overall offer to around €70 million (£58m), which the report adds is 'making Fiorentina officials think'.

Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are also said to be keen on the Serbian international, who has scored 18 goals in 22 appearances this season.

Our view: Arsenal have been linked with several strikers in recent months, but Vlahovic's name has failed to go away. It could be down to the fact that our interest in him is very real, or it's simply Fiorentina trying to drive up his price.

What is clear, however, is that an exciting and talented goalscorer must be at the top of Mikel Arteta's shopping list. Whether it's Vlahovic or not, hopefully the club can arrange a deal sooner rather than later.

Roma table Maitland-Niles bid

Roma have submitted a loan offer for Ainsley Maitland-Niles, according to The Athletic. The deal, if accepted, would see the 24-year-old join Jose Mourinho's side on loan until the end of the season with an option to permanently purchase in the summer.

The report states that as of right now, there has been no response from Arsenal.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has said that the option to buy is valued at €10 million (£8m) and although the deal is still not fully agreed, 'this week will be key'.

Our view: I'm not overly surprised to see Arsenal take their time with a final decision on this. They know that the player wants more game time and isn't 100% happy at the club, yet £8 million is quite low.

The departure of Ainsley would also leave the side lacking options in central midfield, meaning it could have a direct impact on the club's transfer plans.

It was only a couple of seasons ago that Wolves were willing to pay £15 million for him, but unfortunately, we've let another contract run down which leaves us in a weakened position.

Club recall academy stars

Arsenal have recalled Jonathan Dinzeyi and Nikolaj Moller after having loan spells with Carlisle United and FC Viktoria Koln respectively.

The decision to bring back Moller, in particular, comes at a time when the futures of several strikers at the club remain uncertain.

Meanwhile, football.london understands that Arsenal have made several academy players available for loan in January, including Folarin Balogun.

The Gunners also confirmed that defender Harry Clarke had been recalled from Ross County, with an initial loan move to Scottish side Hibernian now lined up.

Our view: Apart from Balogun, these developments shouldn't have much effect on the first-team squad at all. It's good to see the youngster's secure opportunities to grow and develop elsewhere in more of a first-team environment.

Per Mertesacker has done a brilliant job overseeing the academy so far, so I'm confident that he know's what he's doing and is making the best possible choices for the future of Arsenal.
