Fresh Houssem Aouar bid prepared
Arsenal are preparing a fresh bid for Lyon's Houssem Aouar after seeing an initial offer rejected by the Ligue 1 side, Football.London understands.
Lyon Jean-Michel Aulas indicated earlier today that an initial offer of £32million (€35million) had been rejected but Arsenal will not be deterred and the Gunners are ready to increase their offer to £36.5million (€40million) with a further £9million in potential add-ons (€10million).
It was initially reported that Lyon were demanding £55m for his services but that asking price has since reduced, although it's reported in France that the new bid will be swiftly rejected as they're holding out for €50m.
Xhaka issues transfer verdict
Granit Xhaka has praised the signings of Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes, stating the Brazilians have brought 'quality and mentality' to the Gunners.
Those two signings, along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's new three-year contract, has provided a boost to the squad - and Xhaka has been impressed with the business.
"With Willian and Gabriel, Arsenal brought a lot of quality and mentality into the dressing room," Xhaka told the Swiss Telegraphic Agency. "Willian knows how to win titles.
"And the extension with Aubameyang was an important signal for all of us - we want to go back to the Champions League."
Aubameyang backed to become legend
Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on his way to becoming a club legend but needs further silverware to cement that status.
Aubameyang led Arsenal to FA Cup glory last season and penned a fresh three-year deal to end speculation on his future - and Winterburn has outlined the next steps on his path to legendary status.
“If Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang keeps scoring like he has been over the next three years of his contract, then he’ll be heading in the right direction to achieve legendary status at Arsenal. I look back at players that people consider as legendary for the Arsenal, then I look at what they won at the football club and they didn’t win that much," he told FreeSuperTips.
“The number of trophies that some of the players I played with won, in comparison to the amount that Aubameyang could win, it’s clear that he isn’t going to win the same number of trophies. Then eventually when he leaves – it depends always on what circumstances you leave; he will then be regarded as one of the legends of the club.”
