Arsenal predicted line-up as Mikel Arteta ponders changes to face Liverpool

Mikel Arteta could make changes for Monday's Premier League clash against Liverpool as his Arsenal transformation faces its biggest yet.

Arteta has guided the Gunners to victory in their last two games against Jurgen Klopp' side, with a league win in July followed by last month's penalty shootout triumph in the Community Shield.

In between those two games, Arsenal also beat Manchester City and Chelsea on their way to a 14th FA Cup triumph, while victories in their first three games of this season have added to the growing optimism around the Emirates.

However, playing a Liverpool side at Anfield three games into their title defence will present a very different challenge to hosting a team who had already secured the league crown with a huge points advantage during Project Restart.

The Reds have not lost to Arsenal on their home turf since Arteta was in the team more than eight years ago, while the Gunners' poor record on the road big-six sides has cost them in recent seasons.

But now they have two chances to put right that record, with Monday's Premier League showdown followed by a Carabao Cup fourth-round clash at Anfield on Thursday.

It is hoped the signing of Gabriel over the summer will bring Arsenal more defensive stability, and the Brazilian could be joined in the back three by Kieran Tierney, who missed the win over West ham with a groin problem.

David Luiz is likely to complete the defence, while Arteta looks set to bring back the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Granit Xhaka and Willian after they were rested against Leicester.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is pushing for a start after playing against the Foxes, but Arsenal have several players on the treatment table.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Cedric Soares (both calf), Pablo Mari (ankle), Shkodran Mustafi (hamstring), Emile Smith Rowe (shoulder), Calum Chambers and Gabriel Martinelli (both knee) are all missing.

Liverpool are facing something of an injury crisis with goalkeeper Alisson and recent midfield signing Thiago Alcantara doubtful after missing training last week.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson will miss Monday's visit of Arsenal as he has not fully recovered from the knock which forced him off at half-time of Sunday's win at Chelsea.

Joe Gomez trained on Friday and should be fit to resume his defensive partnership with Virgil Van Dijk, which would allow Fabinho to ease the midfield injury crisis after filling in at centre-half in Liverpool's win over Chelsea last week.

Arsenal predicted XI (3-4-3): Leno; Luiz, Gabriel, Tierney; Bellerin, Xhaka, Ceballos, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
