Arsenal players to reject club's wage-cut plans fearing they already face significant losses

Arsenal's squad are ready to knock back the club's wage-cute proposals which would cost players up to 12.5 per cent of their annual salary.

It is understood the club have set out plans to place a blanket 12.5 per cent wage reduction on the entire playing squad until March 2021 should they miss out on Champions League football.

The aim is to ease the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the shutdown of Premier League football.

As part of the proposals, the cuts would be repaid in full if Mikel Arteta's side secured a Champions League berth, while a Europa League spot would see the wage drop reduced to 7.5 per cent.

The five-point plan was put to Hector Bellerin, Arsenal 's Professional Footballers’ Association representative, who then passed it on to the playing squad.

Arsenal's players are keen to help the club ease the financial impact of the Covid-19 outbreak, but they have been advised by the PFA to reject pay cuts.

It is understood Arsenal's players want to discuss deferrals rather than wage cuts, in line with the PFA's advice.

Their contracts are already tied to performances, and players are concerned that they are already set to miss out on significant chunks if they fail to achieve a Champions League spot this season.

Arsenal also warned they would need a "further solution" if the season is not played to its conclusion, or the clubs Arsenal are not paid their TV money for the 2019-20 season in full.
