Burnley midfielder Ashley Westwood has revealed Arsenal players shouted 'we've done this at Leeds' after Granit Xhaka was sent off on Sunday night.
The Gunners slipped to another defeat as their worrying run under Mikel Arteta continues, which leaves the club 15th in the Premier League standings.
Arsenal weren't helped by another red card as Granit Xhaka was dismissed for grabbing Westwood by the throat following a foul of Dwight McNeil by Xhaka, with a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang own goal proving decisive after the red card.
With Arteta's side a man light for over half an hour, Westwood has revealed how Arsenal players tried to drum up encouragement between themselves after holding Leeds to a 0-0 draw earlier in the season.
Nicolas Pepe was sent off for headbutting Ezgjan Alioski at Elland Road and despite Leeds hitting the woodwork three times, they couldn't force a winner.
"It sometimes can work in their favour, it can give them a boost and something to work for," Westwood told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
"I heard them shout 'we've done this at Leeds'. We knew we had to keep switching the ball and eventually, we got there with a set-piece.
"He fouled Dwight (McNeil) in the middle of the pitch and then he gripped Dwight up and you can't do that and then he put his hands on me which you can't do in today's game.
"Playing against 10 men gives you that advantage and we knew we'd be dangerous from set-pieces. Thankfully, we got on the end of one.
"We've been here many times when people say we're in trouble. We have a great group in there, the manager believes in what we do and we don't listen to outside noise.
"We just get on with it and we know the character of the group in there which can get us out of trouble."
