Arsenal players "look broken" in moment with fans after "shambolic" Man City display

Arsenal players looked 'broken' as they applauded fans following their 'shambolic' defeat to Manchester City, according to Joe Cole.

The Gunners were thrashed 5-0 by the champions at the Etihad, as their nightmare start to the Premier League season continued.

Mikel Arteta's men are goalless and pointless in their opening three league fixtures, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table.

Arteta is now huge under pressure during the international break as his players floundered once again.

Pep Guardiola's side were not at their ruthless best but still notched five goals as the Gunners attempted to limit the damage following Granit Xhaka's red card before the break.

While some travelling Arsenal fans left the Etihad early to avoid further misery, many stayed until the final whistle to express their support for the players.

Supporters clapped the Gunners stars despite their abysmal showing as they shared a moment at full-time.

And former Premier League midfielder Cole has slammed the north London club after their latest humbling, stating that the players looked 'broken' as they approached the fans.

Where will Arsenal finish in the Premier League this season? Comment below

"They look broken, the club is in disarray, it was a shambolic performance," Cole said.

"You feel for them in a sense but you’re not surprised. We sat there before the game and you expected Arsenal to be taken to the cleaners but in the manner of how they did it, they showed all of their frailties.

"It showed a lack of discipline, a lack of togetherness."

Arsenal face Norwich and Burnley after the international break before hosting rivals Tottenham in the north London derby.

Arteta's job could be on the line at the Emirates should results not turn, and he was left frustrated with the basic defensive errors his side made.

"Really disappointed with the things that happened on the pitch," he said.

"Obviously the summary after three games and losing the three of them it doesn’t make it any easier.

"I think we started the game really well and took the game the way we wanted.

"We were really competitive, but in the first action the ball is wide, we don’t stop the cross, we don’t deal the runners and defend the box well enough.

"If you do that here it’s impossible to win a football match with so many basic things that have to be done better."

Many critics have pointed to a lack of direction under Arteta but the 39-year-old preferred to focus on the result rather than his longer term 'process' at the club.

"I don’t think today is the day to talk about any process," he added.

"Today we have to talk about the result, what happened on the pitch and that’s it."
