Arsenal players given specific instructions to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring

Lee Dixon has outlined precisely what Arsenal's squad must do to get goal-shy striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang firing once more.

Aubameyang has plundered goals at a prolific rate since his £56million transfer to the Emirates in January 2018, netting 74 times in 119 appearances.

But his form this season gives the Gunners cause for concern, as he has scored just twice in the Premier League at a rate of one goal per 359 minutes.

One of those strikes came from the penalty spot - the winner in the 1-0 victory at Manchester United - meaning Aubameyang is without a league goal from open play since the opening-day win at Fulham.

Dixon believes Aubameyang is struggling with the weight of being Arsenal's only source of goals and urged other players to carry some of the burden to help revive the 31-year-old's form.

The Gunners legend told talkSPORT : "If you’re not getting the service or the opportunities to score and the weight of the goals is all on your shoulders - some players relish it.

Dixon admitted Aubameyang is carrying a "big weight" (BBC 5 Live Sport/Twitter)

"Wrighty [Ian Wright] used to be one where if he didn’t score for five minutes he used to sulk, and that responsibility of carrying the team he enjoyed that.

"But ultimately you need to have goals from elsewhere, people need to chip in from other places just to relieve that.

"As a senior pro you’d have to keep him bubbling in training if you’re going through a bit of a rough patch, and you know he’s the guy who wins us games.

“You’ve got to keep him bubbling away, give him everything he needs to perform. That means chances on the pitch, getting the balls into channels where he makes the runs.

"At the moment there is so much pressure on him because nobody else in the team scores goals really. And that’s a big weight to carry."
