Arsenal player ratings vs Man City: Bukayo Saka terrorises defence as Thomas Partey shows best form

Manchester City scored an injury-time winner to break Arsenal’s hearts and stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League.

Arsenal had been ahead at half-time after Bukayo Saka scored and they were the better team going into the break.

City hit back, however, through a Riyad Mahrez penalty and then they snatched a winner in injury time as Rodri scored.

Simon Collings was at Emirates Stadium to run the rule over the Arsenal players...

Aaron Ramsdale 6

Didn’t really have much to do, which is odd for a game against Manchester City. Was solid coming from cross and distribution was decent too.

Takehiro Tomiyasu 8

Has become such a vital part of the Arsenal’s defence since joining in the summer. Kept Raheem Sterling quiet all day.

Ben White 8

He has been solid this season but this performance, against a team like Man City, will have done his confidence the world of good.

Gabriel 5

Was having a good game and then in the space of a few second-half minutes he was sent off after getting two yellow cards.

Kieran Tierney 8

Another good performance from the Scot, who is well and truly back to his best. Defensively solid and laid on a good pass to setup Saka’s goal.

Thomas Partey8 | Star man

One of the midfielder’s best performances in a long time. Looks to have got his confidence back and bossed the game for large parts.

Granit Xhaka 7

Other than his foul for the penalty, the Swiss had a good game in midfield. Will have a vital role to play this month with Partey at AFCON.

Bukayo Saka 8

The first 45 minutes was some of the best football he has played this season. He terrorised Nathan Ake and got the goal his play deserved.

Martin Odegaard 7

Had an excellent first-half where he was at the heart of a lot of Arsenal’s good play. Was taken off for Holding after Gabriel was sent off around the hour mark.

Gabriel Martinelli 7

Looked dangerous in the first-half and caused Man City so many problems. Only negative was the fact he missed a great chance after the break.

Alexandre Lacazette 7

Spent a lot of the game doing work to create openings for others. Led the attack well and attacked as a focal point.

Substitutions

Rob Holding (Odegaard 63’) 6

Came on when Arsenal were creaking a bit and was fairly solid.

Emile Smith Rowe (Lacazette 71’) 6

Came on when Arsenal were down to 10 men and spent most of the game defending.

Mohamed Elneny (Saka 84’) N/A
