Arsenal player ratings vs Leeds: Jurrien Timber enjoys special day and Declan Rice back to his best

Arsenal kept up their perfect start to the new season by thumping Leeds.

Mikel Arteta’s side ran out 5-0 winners at Emirates Stadium, thanks to braces from Jurrien Timber and Viktor Gyokeres, while Bukayo Saka also got on the scoresheet.

Max Dowman, just 15 years old, came on in the second half as Arsenal cruised to a comfortable victory.

The only concern for the Gunners is that both captain Martin Odegaard and Saka were forced off due to injuries, with Arsenal travelling to reigning champions Liverpool next week.

David Raya 7

Made a top save when the game was goalless to keep out Pascal Struijk’s header. A big moment in the game.

Jurrien Timber 9 | Star player

A dream afternoon for the right-back. Two goals, an assist and a clean sheet. Marked his first start of the season in style.

William Saliba 7

The better of Arsenal’s two centre-backs and helped them keep back-to-back clean sheets. Gave Leeds striker Joel Piroe nothing to feed off.

Gabriel 6

Lost Struijk from a corner and forced Raya to make an outstanding save. Recovered after that and was solid.

Riccardo Calafiori 7

Kept his place in the team and showed why. So dangerous when overlapping and created Gyokeres’ goal with a lovely pass over the top.

Martin Odegaard 6

A frustrating afternoon for the captain, who went close with an early shot from range. Forced off before half-time due to a shoulder injury.

Martin Zubimendi 7

Grew into the game after a slow start. Involved in Arsenal’s second goal, when he quickly picked out Timber.

Declan Rice 8

Back to his best after a quiet game at Old Trafford. Set-piece delivery was brilliant and led to two goals.

Bukayo Saka 7

Scored a thumping effort from a tight angle to make it 2-0 before half-time. Concerningly limped off early in the second half, though, with a hamstring injury.

Viktor Gyokeres 8

Snatched at a chance in the first half, but got off the mark at his new club shortly after the break with a great run and finish. Smashed home a penalty late on, too.

Noni Madueke 6

A solid full debut from the winger. Looked sharp early on and created a few chances. Will be a valuable option this season.

Substitutions

Ethan Nwaneri (Odegaard 38’) 6

A solid showing and helped Arsenal control the game, but not the fireworks he would have hoped for after coming on early.

Leandro Trossard (Saka 53’) 6

Looked sharp and hungry to prove a point. Could start next week if Saka is injured.

Max Dowman (Madueke 64’) 8

On for his debut and became the second youngest player in Arsenal’s history to play for the club. Won a penalty late on and was a menace all game. A special talent.

Myles Lewis-Skelly (Calafiori 64’) 7

Tucked into midfield a lot and helped Arsenal dominate that area of the pitch in the second half.

Cristhian Mosquera (Timber 64’) 6

Underlined his versatility by coming on at right-back. A steady performance.

Subs not used: Kepa, Kiwior, Merino, Martinelli
