Arsenal player ratings vs Everton as Martin Odegaard and Ben White poor but Gabriel shines

Aaron Ramsdale: Some good saves, particularly the one from Idrissa Gueye's deflected shot. Generally good at claiming crosses too, but could do little about the goal. 7.

Ben White: Not at his best going forward and offered very little in the build up. Too many simple giveaways. Solid enough defensively but gave the ball away far too often. 5.

William Saliba: Did OK generally with the threat Calvert-Lewin poses and dealt well when Everton looked to attack in transition. Not as incisive as usual in possession though. 6.

Gabriel: Dealt superbly with Calvert-Lewin winning most of the aerial duels. One of the few Arsenal players who looked up for the fight from minute one. Could have had a penalty on another day. 7.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: Inverted well as always and put it in some superb passes to get Arsenal up the pitch on occasion. Influence faded on the game as Arsenal lost the midfield battle. 6.

Thomas Partey: The Ghanaian did try to be vertical and incisive with his passing, but he was caught in possession on a few too many occasions. You wonder if the injury played a part in his early withdrawal. 6.

Granit Xhaka: Lacked composure in possession on occasion as Everton looked to harry and hustle in possession. Contributed going forward in the second half but not too decisively. 5.

Martin Odegaard: Relatively anonymous in the first half as Arsenal struggled to get a foothold in possession. More influential in the second but didn't take key opportunities when they came. Perhaps a surprise to see him hooked, but he can have few complaints. 5.

Bukayo Saka: Marked very tightly and did do OK under the circumstances. One good volley that was cleared off the line and a second half shot that was blocked. Didn't beat Mykolenko enough though. 6.

Eddie Nketiah: Didn't move enough in the first half to pull the Everton defence apart from their set shape. Better in the second but couldn't take opportunities when they came along. 5.

Gabriel Martinelli: Found himself in space a lot in the early stages but couldn't do a lot with it. Too easily forced to the byline. Set piece delivery wasn't the greatest either, but was a threat. 6.

SUBSTITUTES -

Jorginho: A solid enough debut from the Italian. Not spectacular in possession but safe. Didn't exactly help Arsenal to win the crucial midfield battle though. 6.

Leandro Trossard: Looked more of a threat than Martinelli after coming in but his end product was poor. Set piece deliveries atrocious too. 5.

Fabio Vieira: Maybe should have come on earlier. Impacted the game with some decent passes, but again couldn't turn the tide in Arsenal's favour. 6.

Takehiro Tomiyasu: Came on too late to influence the game. n/a.
