Arsenal player ratings as Gunners edge out Sheffield United

Arsenal survived a late fightback from Sheffield United to earn three points thanks to two second-half strikes.

The Gunners took the lead on the hour-mark, Mohamed Elneny and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang combining before Hector Bellerin crossed in for Bukayo Saka to head home at the far post.

Nicolas Pepe then added a fine second, firing the ball across Aaron Ramsdale in the United goal.

A fine strike from David McColdrick with seven minutes remaining gave the Blades hope but there was to be no comeback, however, as Arsenal saw out the remainder of the game to pick up their third Premier League win from their opening four fixtures and leave the visitors without a point.

Here's how we rated the players from both sides...

Arsenal

Leno 6

The quieter of the keepers. Not a game with thrills, spills and spectacular saves.

Bellerin 8

MotM. Two assists, showed his value again to the team. Unsung hero.

Luiz 6

Nervy start and lucky to get away with blatant shirt pull on Burke.

Gabriel 7

Such a solid defender, a physical presence and proper old school centre half.

Tierney 6

Nice and solid at left back but not as much chance to drive forward.

Elneny 7

Where exactly was he playing? Not a criticism, he was everywhere.

Ceballos 7

With no incomings likely, his influence must grow. Excellent influence.

Saka 7

Topped off another great week with a super headed goal. What a future.

Willian 5

Disappointing. After his blistering start to the season, needs to get back to best.

Nketiah 6

Got a surprise nod over Lacazette but that’s a measure of how much Arteta likes him.

Aubameyang 6

Took heavy punishment from Berge’s challenge, clearly affected his performance.

Subs

Pepe, for Nketiah, 58 mins, 7

Xhaka, for Ceballos, 81 mins

Maitland-Niles for Saka, 87 mins

Sheffield United

Ramsdale 7

One terrific save from Aubameyang after a rather sloppy clearance. Good prospect.

Basham 6

Often the defender charged with picking up Aubameyang - did well enough.

Egan 6

Given the captain’s armband but his day ended in disappointment.

Robinson 5

This defence does not look as well drilled or as much of a unit as last season.

Baldock 7

One of the Premier League’s most underrated players… so reliable and strong.

Lundstram 6

Had a classic moment… if he’d gone down, might have been a pen but was honest.

Berge 6

Booked. Got a yellow card for brutal challenge on Aubameyang. It was probably orange.

Osborn 6

Tidy enough game, did not force much but that could be said for a few…

Stevens 6

Spent far more time defending than overlapping. Solid but frustrating.

McGoldrick 7

Scored super late goal - their first in the Prem this season - to set up grandstand finish.

Burke 5

Hooked early after not getting much of a look-in. Goals such an issue.

Subs

McBurnie, for Burke, 58 mins, 5

Fleck, for Osborn, 63 mins, 6

Sharp, for Basham, 77 mins
