Arsenal picture special: Mkhitaryan returns as two wonderkids train with new squad numbers

Arsenal's first-team stars are beginning to filter back to London Colney for pre-season training.

The likes of Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Sead Kolasniac, Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi and Calum Chambers were all present as the squad were put through their paces on Saturday.

But there were some noteable absentees.

All of which are down to international commitments over the summer, so Lucas Torreira and Mohamed Elneny aren't expected back anytime soon while Alex Iwobi could miss the whole pre-season campaign.

Today (Monday) marked the return of attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan to training.

Head coach Unai Emery also called up a number of Arsenal wonderkids to training including Tyreece John-Jules, fresh off his brace in a pre-season friendly against Boreham Wood at the weekend, Zech Medley and Robbie Burton.

Fans may have also spotted an appearance from Joe Willock and there's something different about the young midfielder.

It would appear he has a new squad number ahead of the new season.

With Aaron Ramsey now a Juventus player, that box-to-box role does need filling and Willock gave fans a glimpse of his quality with a decent cameo in the Europa League final defeat by Chelsea.

And the same can be said about Eddie Nketiah in terms of a new squad number.

They trained in the no.28 and no.30 shirts respectively, which while isn't an official promotion, could suggest that the pair will be in line for more first-team opportunities next season.
