Arsenal picture special: Lacazette, Ozil & Pepe spotted in Mikel Arteta's first training session

Mikel Arteta has taken charge of his first training session as Arsenal head coach.

It's certainly been a hectic last few days for the Spaniard.

On Wednesday he was assisting Pep Guardiola for Manchester City's 3-1 win over Oxford United in the Carabao Cup and 24 hours later he was saying his goodbyes to the playing and coaching staff at the Etihad Stadium.

Everton 0-0 Arsenal: Freddie Ljungberg press conference

Then on Friday afternoon he was officially appointed as the new Gunners head coach - three weeks after the club had sacked Unai Emery.

On the same day Arteta spoke to the media for his first ever press conference in this new role.

The busy nature of the job showed no signs of letting up as the Spaniard travelled to Goodison Park for a watching brief from the stands as the north London outfit drew 0-0 with Everton.

That proved to be Freddie Ljungberg's final stand as interim head coach.

This is because the Arteta era at the Emirates Stadium got underway today (Sunday) and the 37-year-old has got straight down to work.

He oversaw a training session at London Colney ahead of the Boxing Day trip to Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Among those present for the session was Mesut Ozil who didn't make the trip to Merseyside in a decision made by Ljungberg as he wasn't best pleased with the midfielder's reaction to being substituted against Man City last weekend

"For me, I got asked after the game about Mesut. He walked off, took his things (gloves) and kicked them and the fans were not happy and I was asked about it," Ljungberg said.

"I said 'For me, at Arsenal, that's not how we behave, that’s not what we do'  and I stand by that.

"Mesut was injured but I would not have picked him for the squad because I want to make a stance that, that's not what I accept from an Arsenal football player.

"That's my decision and that’s what I think."

Elsewhere, the Arsenal squad including the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, Sokratis and several youngsters including Konstantinos Mavropanos, Robbie Burton and Tolaji Bola were put through their paces at the club's training base in London Colney on Sunday afternoon.
