Arsenal picture special: Emery leads training session with Ceballos, Guendouzi & six wonderkids

Arsenal are back in action this afternoon.

It's been a good pre-season for Unai Emery's side thus far and he will be looking for one another big performance from his players as the Emirates Cup returns following a one-year hiatus.

The Gunners returned to the UK following two weeks in America which brought about four friendlies.

Goals from Bukayo Saka, James Olayinka and summer signing Gabriel Martinelli sealed a 3-0 win over Colorado Rapids in the opening game of the tour while an own goal and Eddie Nkeitah's poacher's effort brought about a 2-1 victory against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Next was a comfortable win over Serie A outfit Fiorentina with Nketiah helping himself to a brace and Joe Willock also getting on the scoresheet.

The final game of the tour was an entertaining encounter against Real Madrid.

Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had the Gunners in a 2-0 lead at half-time against 10-man Real Madrid, but Sokratis levelled things up by getting sent-off and that played a role in Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio forcing penalties.

Granit Xhaka, Nacho Monreal and Robbie Burton all missed from 12 yards to give Los Blancos a 3-2 win in the shootout, but all things considered it was a very good tour for the Gunners.

This afternoon the north London face Lyon in the Emirates Cup and Emery has been handed a double injury boost.

Neither Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Shkodran Mustafi featured against Real Madrid due to injury precautions, but the good news is that both took part in training on Saturday so have a chance of being involved today.

Rob Holding also took part in the session as he continues to make good progress.

Loan signing Dani Ceballos now has two days of training with his new teammates following his move on Thursday and is in contention to make his bow in front of the Emirates Stadium faithful.

Alexandre Lacazette also trained as he looks set to face his former club for the first time since his departure a couple of summers ago.

Arsenal's impressive stars vs Real Madrid

The Gunners were put through their paces at London Colney on Saturday ahead of this afternoon's kick-off.

Youngsters Martinelli, Nketiah, Willock, Zech Medley, Tyreece John-Jules and Reiss Nelson were present as was the likes of Emiliano Martinez, Xhaka, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Calum Chambers, Aubameyang, the returning Matteo Guendouzi and Sokratis.
