Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke's LA Rams position explained ahead of Super Bowl 2022

It's Super Bowl Sunday.

This year's contest will be played between the Cincinnati Bengals and the LA Rams. The latter of those teams have a brief connection to Arsenal as the two have the same owner in Stan Kroenke.

Kroenke became a shareholder at Arsenal in May 2007, was appointed to the Board of Directors in September 2008 and became the majority shareholder of the club in April 2011.

As the head of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, he owns a number of north American sports teams, venues and radio and television networks - including the Rams and the Colorado Rapids in the MLS.

His family’s sports holdings also include the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League and the Denver Nuggets of the NBA.

The American has often been criticised by fans at the Emirates stadium for being distant, but the Rams' qualification for the Super Bowl shows that he is having success as owner and CEO elsewhere.

The Rams are one game away from ascending to the top of the NFL, having established themselves as one of the sport's top teams since making the move from St. Louis to Los Angeles in 2016 - a move that was overseen by Kroenke.

Although it was controversial at the time, it's clearly worked in some ways. Whilst the Rams have been seeing a fair bit of success, the Gunners have been in a transition period of their own under Kroenke's ownership.

Arsenal fans will be hoping to see similar levels of success in the coming years, whilst Kroenke may wish to repair the relationship between them and his family.
