Here is the Arsenal morning digest on Thursday, May 28.
Gunners chase Schalke winger - reports
Arsenal have opened talks with Schalke over signing winger Rabbi Matondo in the summer, according to Todo Fichajes.
The news outlet is reporting the Gunners have joined Real Madrid and Chelsea in the race to sign the 19-year-old.
Matondo was part of Manchester City’s academy system before moving to Germany last year and Mikel Arteta is said to be keen on bringing him back to the UK.
The Welshman has played 14 times in the Bundesliga this season for Schalke, and has scored one goal in the process.
Arteta’s plans for next phase of Arsenal training
The Premier League clubs unanimously voted to return to full-contact training sessions on Wednesday.
The competition has been postponed since mid-March and a return to action is yet to be officially announced.
However, Arteta is not planning on having 11-on-11 drills at London Colney just yet, but he is keen on reintroducing them so the squad can get closer to a real match-scenario, as James Benge writes.
Arsenal target to be offered new deal - reports
Reported Arsenal target Ousseynou Ba is set to be offered a new contract from Olympiakos, according to Greek outlet Sport24.
Ba has impressed during his time at Olympiakos since joining from Gazelec Ajaccio last summer and his parent club are keen to extend his current deal.
However, the Gunners, along with Liverpool, are believed to hold an interest in the 24-year-old, who massively impressed in the Greek side’s win over Arsenal earlier this season.
Despite Olympiakos being desperate to keep Ba, they could face a battle after a strong season for the Senegal-born defender.
