Arsenal open disciplinary proceedings against Laurent Koscielny after club captain refuses to travel to US

Arsenal have opened disciplinary action against Laurent Koscielny after the club captain refused to travel to the US for their pre-season tour.

Frenchman Koscielny, 33, wants to leave Arsenal after nine years and has offers from Ligue 1 - including a three-year contract at Bordeaux.

But he has a year to run on his Gunners deal and the club have so far refused to agree to terminate his contract to allow him to leave for free.

Arsenal have told Koscielny they expect him to honours his contract - despite their awareness of his desire to seek a new challenge.

The Gunners would consider an offer for the centre-half but there have been no official bids, despite interest from his homeland.

Koscielny believes after the service he has given to the club he should be allowed to depart on his own terms, according to Goal.

In a statement on their official website, Arsenal said: “We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions.

“We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”

Arsenal will play four matches in the States - against Colorado Rapid, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina and Real Madrid .
