Arsenal news: Wolves talking points, defensive frailties and an Alexis Sanchez theory

One point off the top four, Arsenal may still be reeling from a disappointing 3-1 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Wednesday night. The result meant that the Gunners remained in fifth place in the table, with the possibility of breaking into the Champions League places taken out of their hands.

It was the second game in a row that Unai Emery's men fell to defeat, conceding three goals in the process.

The damning moments in Wolves defeat that show why Arsenal are doomed to buckle under pressure

They will be looking to put the last two results behind them when they travel to the Leicester to take on Brendan Rodgers' newly revitalised Foxes on Sunday.

While you wait for the game, here is some news from the last 24 hours that you may have missed.

Talking points from defeat at Wolves

While some fans won't want to relive Wednesday's 3-1 defeat at Molineux, there was still plenty of talking points to come from the game.

With a top four finish now out of the Gunners' hands, some questions have been raised about the tactical choices of manager Unai Emery. Arsenal's defenders struggled to deal with the counter-attacking threat of a Wolves team set up perfectly to deliver the sucker punch, as was shown when the players trudged off at half time three goals down.

There was one positive from the game, a 20-minute cameo from 19-year-old academy product Eddie Nketiah, who was one of Arsenal's better players on the night.

The defensive statistic that Emery has to rectify

Conceding six goals in the last two games against Crystal Palace and Wolves may have alarm bells ringing for Arsenal, especially as a few of them goals have come from individual defensive errors.

Now there is a statistic that has emerged that will back up Arsenal's concern. The Gunners are leading the way in the Premier League for errors directly leading to an opposition goal. With 12 goals conceded due to defensive errors.

The Alexis Sanchez/Arsenal's away form theory

There is no secret to that fact that Arsenal's away form over the last 18 months is poor. There is now a theory that the departure of a certain player could be the reason in the dismal record away from the Emirates Stadium.

Alexis Sanchez swapped North London for Old Trafford in January 2018, thanks to a swap move between the two clubs which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way. After the Chile international's departure, Arsenal only managed to win one of their remaining away games of the 2017/18 season, against Huddersfield on the final day.
