Arsenal news: Triple Man United injury blow, Emery's five captains and Lacazette boost

A lot is happening in the world of Arsenal Football Club, both on and off the pitch.

On it, head coach Unai Emery has managed to steady the ship following three games without a win in the Premier League - a sequence of results which had some supporters calling for him to be sacked.

A 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League was followed up with an impressive comeback victory over Aston Villa last weekend.

Just over 48 hours later, the Gunners put five past Nottingham Forest to set up a Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool.

The north London are next in action this coming Monday night as they face Manchester United at Old Trafford and most members in the squad should be fresh having had over a week to prepare.

With that said, here’s all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Emery's five captains

Arsenal's new club captain has finally been announced and as expected, it's midfielder Granit Xhaka.

It's safe to say that the Swizterland international splits opinions among Arsenal fans, but he's been confirmed as the Gunners' leader following the departure of Laurent Koscielny in the summer transfer window.

Emery has always said that he's wanted five captains and the full list has always been revealed.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil are the remaining members of the captaincy group - although some fans believed Rob Holding should have been named.

Man United triple injury blow

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sweating on the fitness of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba.

The United boss appears to have ruled out the two strikers, but not all Arsenal fans are convinced.

"Rashford and Martial? I wouldn’t put my life on it but that’s part of this game, you work with what you have and we’re looking forward to this game," he told reporters.

"The situation is he finished the game," said Solskjaer (about Pogba). "90 minutes, fantastic but he got a knock to his ankle which is very swollen so was better not to go there with the team and he’s in a race for Monday.

"Doubt? Yes, but that’s just the way it is."

The good news for United is that Luke Shaw has returned to full training and will be looking to prove his fitness to Solskjaer ahead of the big game under the lights at the 'Theatre of Dreams'.

Lacazette boost

If Aubameyang's videos are anything to go by, then Alexandre Lacazette is in high spirits as he edges closer to a return to first-team action after missing the last four games with an ankle injury.

Back at some point next month, could the Frenchman return before the international break?

Well, his strike partner posted a video on Instagram and fans will love the injury update.

The videos show Lacazette doing work in the pool while sharing a joke and splashing water at his strike partner and pulling off some dance moves.

Pepe warning

Dimitar Berbatov feels that Manchester United have plenty to fear when Arsenal come to town on Monday night.

The former United striker has picked out Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and summer signing Nicolas Pepe as the threats which Solskjaer's side have to stop to prevail in the big Premier League encounter.

"I am worried about the front players of Arsenal, especially Aubameyang - he is phenomenal," Berbatov told Betfair.

"I like Pepe as well, he is so unorthodox, he's really fast, he can go one-on-one and challenge defenders.

"On this part of the pitch Arsenal are so dangerous, they can kill you with their speed so United need to be careful of that and don't lose any space to them."
