Arsenal news: Transfer net spend, brutal Granit Xhaka verdict, Sanllehi ends contract crisis

It's one of the periods of the season that football fans hate - the international break.

After four weeks of the Premier League, we now have a two-week break from action to focus on the international stage.

But there will be plenty still going on at our clubs, with many players staying at home and lots of work being done behind the scenes.

It is a bit quieter, but we've take a look at what happened in the summer and what is going on during the next couple of weeks.

Here we round up the biggest Arsenal stories from the past 24 hours.

Transfer net spend

The transfer window is now closed in all countries.

So the squad that Unai Emery has at his disposal now is the squad he will have until at least January, when the window opens again.

Arsenal spent big this summer, breaking their transfer record on winger Nicolas Pepe and bringing in Kieran Tierney, Gabriel Martinelli, David Luiz, William Saliba - although he went back to Saint Etienne on loan - and Dani Ceballos on loan.

They also let a number of players leave the Emirates.

So where did that leave their net spend?

Let's take a look.

Granit Xhaka verdict

Granit Xhaka was not well liked by the Arsenal fans on Sunday.

The midfielder took the rather foolish decision of going to ground in the penalty area, bringing down Son Heung-min and giving Harry Kane the chance to score from the spot and put Spurs 2-0 up, which he did not pass up.

Arsenal fought back to draw 2-2 of course, but Xhaka's error gave the Gunners a mountain to climb.

And Arsenal legend Paul Merson offered a damning assessment of the Swiss.

Here's what he said.

What happened to Henrikh Mkhitaryan?

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is undoubtedly a talented player.

The Armenian starred in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund, but his time in England has been nowhere near as fruitful.

The midfielder left Arsenal this week to go on loan to Roma after an indifferent spell with the Gunners.

So where did it all go wrong?

James Benge discusses exactly that here.

Contract crisis ends

The Aaron Ramsey saga was one that Raul Sanllehi said he would not let happen again at Arsenal.

And he appears to be keeping his word.

At the start of the summer Arsenal's wage bill was in a state of disrepair, overloaded with generously paid players whose contributions did not match their salaries. In a matter of weeks head of football Raul Sanllehi has managed to clean house.

How has he done it?
