Arsenal news: Transfer crisis looms for Mikel Arteta as top four chances assessed

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is facing a transfer crisis this summer, according to former captain William Gallas.

The Gunners are in need of a new striker having sold Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona on transfer deadline day and with Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah due to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

But Gallas has warned the Arsenal boss he faces a challenge to bring in players of the calibre needed.

It comes as Thierry Henry has assessed Arsenal's chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season, while Martin Odegaard has opened up about his manager's squad building efforts.

Odegaard on Gunners squad

Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard believes the Gunners are 'building something special' at the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu spent a record £140million last summer as they went about reshaping the Gunners' squad, investing in young players who can accumulate in transfer value as they improve with the club.

And Odegaard has opened up on what it is like working within such a young squad, which he has described as having "a lot of big young talents".

Henry assesses top four chances

Arsenal's season will go down as a failure should the club fail to secure Champions League qualification, former captain Thierry Henry has said.

Mikel Arteta's side are well-placed in the top-four race despite sitting sixth in the Premier League table.

The Gunners lie four points behind Manchester United, who occupy fourth place, but have three games in hand on Ralf Rangnick's side, while Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham have seen their campaigns stutter in recent weeks.

And Arsenal legend Henry has now spoken about the challenge facing Mikel Arteta between now and the end of the season.

Transfer crisis looms

Former Arsenal captain William Gallas has said there are "no players that stand out" for Arsenal to sign in order to solve their problems up front.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are the only recognised senior forwards within Mikel Arteta's squad, but both could leave at the end of the season when their contracts expire.

After selling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on transfer deadline day and missing out on top target Dusan Vlahovic during the January window, the Gunners are still looking for someone who can lead the line next season.

And Gallas has given a scathing assessment of Arsenal's chances of bringing in someone with the quality they need to battle for major honours to bet365.
