Arsenal news: Tierney deal, £40m transfer, David Luiz's shock move and Mustafi's future

Transfer deadline day has come and gone.

The focus for Arsenal and Unai Emery is now the start of the new Premier League season against Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday afternoon.

With that said, the Gunners did have a good enough transfer window to provide supporters with some cause for optimism ahead of the trip to Tyneside and with that said here's the latest news coming out of the Emirates Stadium in the past 24 hours.

Tierney signs

The Gunners began deadline day expecting two new arrivals. Signing number one was announced shortly before 5pm with the Scotland international completing his £25m transfer from Celtic.

Tierney will wear the no.3 shirt - last worn by Kieran Gibbs - and is ready for the massive opportunity that awaits him in north London.

"Yeah, it was the hardest decision in my whole life that I've had to make," he said. "I had to speak to my family and my close friends and my agent as well because it's a hard decision to leave a club that you love so much.

"People need to know that as well. I feel Arsenal is a massive club and it's a great opportunity for me as well. I'm delighted to be here.

David Luiz completes summer incomings

Arsenal's final signing of the summer transfer window is none other than David Luiz.

The central defender has completed a reported £8m move to the Emirates Stadium from London rivals Chelsea and Gunners supporters will hope he can help to improve their weaknesses at the back.

Alex Iwobi leaves

As Tierney and Luiz say hello, Iwobi has bid farewell.

The Nigeria international came through the youth system at Arsenal, becoming a full fledged first-team star during the 2015/2016 season, striking up an instant understanding with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

This move to Everton - worth a reported £40m - somewhat came as a surprise as the Toffees launched an opening offer of £30m on Wednesday which was rejected.

However, they returned with an improved bid 24 hours later and Iwobi becomes the Gunners' most expensive sale ever.

A rather shocking statistic given the departures of Thierry Henry, Ashley Cole, Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor among others over the past 15 years.

More transfers

Just because deadline day has passed doesn't mean the Gunners' transfer business has concluded.

Clubs across Europe can still add to their respective squads until early next month, so there could be more exits over the next three weeks or so.

Shkodran Mustafi has been linked with a move to France and looks to have dropped down the pecking order following the arrival of David Luiz from Chelsea.
