Arsenal news: Smith Rowe injury update, Pablo Mari's qualities and Upamecano on his future

Arsenal are back in action tonight as they take on Portsmouth in the FA Cup fifth round.

The game is the Gunners' first return to action since the disappointment of their exit from the Europa Lague at the hands of Olympiacos last week after a 2-1 home loss against the Greek side.

In the league, a top-four spot is now the target, but Manchester City's participation in the Carabao Cup final means that Arsenal didn't have a game on the weekend.

But, focus now goes on trying to claim some silverware this season as Mikel Arteta's men face a trip to the south coast.

Football.london will bring you all the build up to the game, and, while you wait here is the latest news from the Emirates Stadium.

Emile Smith Rowe injury update

Arsenal loanee Emile Smith Rowe suffered an injury scare in Huddersfield's 4-0 win over Charlton on Saturday afternoon, the midfielder was substituted off and was spotted clutching his back as he made his way off the pitch.

However, Terriers' boss Danny Cowley has given a positive update on the Gunners' youngster.

"He was just feeling his back. Like I've said before, we didn't want to leave him out of the starting eleven last Saturday [against Swansea] but you've seen that we've had two home games and we wanted to play him in the two home games for obvious reasons," he said, as reported by Examiner Live .

"We had to be a little bit disciplined with him last Saturday but he was able to play Tuesday night and play ever so well and I thought some of his play against Charlton was excellent."

What Pablo Mari will bring to Arsenal

Upamecano on his future

While the addition on Mari does add some defensive numbers to Arteta's squad, the Gunners are likely to be back in the market for a central defender during the summer window.

One who has been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in RB Leipzig man Dayot Upamecano.

The defender has given an update on his future.

"I feel very comfortable in Leipzig," he told Fussball Transfers . "I love my teammates, the staff and my club.

"At the moment I am still under contract until 2021. It is my duty to continue to train well and play my games.

"Even if I know that there are clubs that want me, I stay on the ground with both feet, that's for sure." Full story here.
