Arsenal news: Scattergun transfer approach, Frenkie de Jong revelation, what Saliba deal means

What will happen at Arsenal in the final few weeks of the transfer window?

Unai Emery has much work to do.

But at least he has a technical director behind him now, following Edu's appointment.

The pair will be teaming up to get a few more deals over the line.

Here are the biggest stories doing the rounds concerning Arsenal in the last 24 hours.

Scattergun approach

Arsenal have made just one summer signing so far.

Wonderkid Gabriel Martinelli is seen as one for the future, with the Brazilian teenager signing for £5.3million.

Arsenal have been linked with plenty of other players, but none are, as yet, through the door.

But the fact that they have been linked with so many, with so little money to spend, could be seen as a concern.

What is going on with the transfer policy at the Emirates? Who will Unai Emery get?

We take a look at what's been going on behind the scenes.

Frenkie de Jong transfer

Frenkie de Jong is one of the hottest talents in world football.

At just 21 years old, he guided a young Ajax side to the brink of the Champions League final, missing out in the semi-final on away goals to Tottenham, having beaten Real Madrid and Juventus to get there.

Midway through the season, he signed a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona to sign for the Catalan giants in a €75million deal on July 1.

But could he have gone elsewhere?

The answer is of course yes, with a number of top clubs in the market for him, but Arsenal were not thought to be one of them, although perhaps they should have been.

Here's why.

Mesut Ozil transfer latest

The future of Mesut Ozil seems to make headlines during every transfer window.

The German playmaker struggled to tie down a regular place in Unai Emery's first team last season, with the Arsenal boss leaving him out on a number of separate occasions.

Emery has a limited transfer budget to work with this summer, and offloading players is seen as a way of boosting the meagre £45million he has to spend.

Ozil was thought to be one of those that could leave, and one of the clubs he was linked with have issued a statement on his future.

Here's what Fenerbahce have said.

Winners and losers in Saliba deal

William Saliba's arrival at Arsenal in a deal worth around £27million is imminent.

The 18-year-old centre-back has long been a target for Arsenal and is set to sign a five-year deal at the Emirates - even if fans will have to wait a further 12 months to watch him ply his trade in north London.

His Ligue 1 club Saint Etienne made it a stipulation of any deal that the France U20 international will return on loan to the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard for the forthcoming 2019-20 campaign.

Yet even with Saliba back with Les Verts, the repercussions of his signing will reverberate around the Emirates.

Here we take a look at the winners and loser from his arrival.
