Arsenal news: Rodgers signs contract, Kroenke issue, David Luiz decision and Aubameyang 'talks'

It's Saturday! That means Premier League football is back on our screens after an interesting midweek of action.

But Arsenal aren't back in action until Monday night.

That's when they face West Ham United away from home in what should be Freddie Ljungberg's first taste of a London derby as interim head coach.

Arsenal 1-2 Brighton: Freddie Ljungberg full post-match press conference

The Gunners' legend first two games since replacing Unai Emery in the dugout hasn't gone all that well as his side drew 2-2 with Norwich City six days ago before being beaten at home by Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night.

There has been plenty of reaction to the defeat against the Seagulls and there will be even more ahead of the game at the London Stadium.

With that said, here's all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Rodgers signs new contract

Brendan Rodgers has all but ended speculation linking him with Arsenal after signing a new contract with Leicester City.

The Northern Irishman has penned a new deal until June 2025 with the Foxes.

"When I made the decision to come to Leicester City, it was because I was excited about the direction the Club was taking and how I could apply my experience to the journey," Rodgers told the club’s website after signing his new deal.

"I came here with a purpose to add something to that and to help the Club build for the future.

"The support I have had from the chairman, Khun Top; from the chief executive, Susan Whelan; from the director of football, Jon Rudkin; and from everyone at the club has been amazing."

Kroenke issue

A dreadful 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton and Hove Albion was the latest crisis point for Arsenal this season.

But their problems run far deeper than matters on the pitch.

At board level, questions continue to be asked of Stan Kroenke and the vision for the club under his ownership as the Gunners are looking very much like a mid-table side with each passing week.

Ljungberg told to drop David Luiz vs West Ham

The interim head coach has some big decisions to make ahead of Monday night's clash against the Hammers at the London Stadium.

And Martin Keown believes that Ljungberg has to act decisively, with the former Arsenal defender naming the change he would make if he were in the Swede's shoes.

"Freddie [Ljungberg] either has to play a back three, or drop David Luiz," he said.

"I would take David Luiz out of the team, because he is dropping so deep."

Aubameyang to Real Madrid?

Real Madrid have opened talks with the representatives of the Arsenal captain, according to reports.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's contract at the Emirates Stadium expires at the end of next season and there's been little progress in regards to extending his stay in the capital.

And it would appear that the La Liga giants are ready to swoop in.

The report also states that Los Blancos would be willing to include Luka Jovic to sweeten a deal to get Aubameyang to swap London for Spain.

This rumour follows on from claims that Aubameyang has put Arsenal contract talks on hold.

According to the Times, the Gabon international has concerns over the club's ability to qualify for the Champions League as well as competing for major trophies.
