Arsenal news: Raul Sanllehi makes £55m Upamecano decision, Rugani contract 'agreed'

The last few days of the transfer window will be dominated by which defensive players Arsenal could sign.

The Gunners have done some excellent business in an attacking sense so far this summer, but have yet to improve their defence, given William Saliba joined and went straight back to St Etienne on loan.

A number of players have been linked, but not yet signed, meanwhile the Arsenal faithful are keen to know when their new club record signing will be ready for action too.

Here are the biggest Arsenal stories from the past 24 hours.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano, and reportedly had a £55m bid rejected for the 20-year-old.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen at central defence and Upamecano was originally among several names being looked at.

He is right-footed and can also play in central midfield. He plies his trade in the German Bundesliga with Red Bull Leipzig, where he has played for two seasons, since moving from the other Red Bull team in Salzburg for £9million.

But according to  ESPN , after seeing their initial offer turned down, Arsenal are no longer interested in Upamecano as a deal was too complicated to conclude.

Philippe Coutinho linked with loan move

According to reports, Philippe Coutinho’s representatives have contacted Arsenal to see whether there is any interest in a potential loan deal for the Barcelona midfielder.

But the Gunners have reportedly responded by saying that they are prioritising a defender before the transfer window shuts.

The report claims Barcelona and Arsenal have not yet made any formal contact over the signing, but both sides are ‘keeping their options open’.

ESPN  state that Coutinho has also been offered to both Manchester United and Tottenham, with Spurs reportedly a more ‘likely’ destination.

Coutinho played under Mauricio Pochettino at Espanyol and has maintained a great relationship with the Argentine coach.

The report claims any move to north London is complicated, though, and would depend on Spurs selling Christian Eriksen and not signing Bruno Fernandes or Giovani Lo Celso.

Eddie Nketiah's future in the air as Championship sides eye loan

Young Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah looks to be heading out on loan, with a number of Championship clubs beginning to circle for his services.

The 20-year-old has been a part of Unai Emery's first team squad during pre-season, scoring in the matches against Bayern Munich and Fiorentina, but there are concerns over a possible lack of game time at the Emirates Stadium, with strikers such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe all expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order.

Therefore, the decision to send him out on loan could be one that suits all parties. On the news that Nketiah could be available on a temporary deal, Championship clubs have made their interest be known.
