Arsenal news: Pepe chant, Holding injury update, Mourinho verdict, Emery on Newcastle win

The new Premier League season is under way.

And Arsenal got it off to the perfect start with a 1-0 win away at Newcastle, following up on victories for Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City before them.

There is plenty of optimism around the Emirates Stadium following a fine summer of transfer business.

Here we round up all the biggest stories from around Arsenal in the last 24 hours, inclduing a good look at the win over Newcastle.

Newcastle win

It was a good start to the new Premier League campaign for Arsenal.

The match at St James' Park was not much to write home about, with Newcastle and the Gunners struggling to get going in dismal conditions in driving rain in the north east.

And everything boss Unai Emery said afterwards is right here too.

Injury update

Unai Emery has been without two of his top defenders for the long term.

Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin have been on the treatment table for some time.

And that has undoubtedly contributed to the Gunners' poor defensive record last season.

Arsenal kept a clean sheet on the opening day against Newcastle, but the supporters will be hoping to have the duo back sooner rather than later.

And Emery issued an update on their situation after the game against the Mapgies.

Here's what he had to say.

Pepe chant

He's Arsenal's club record signing and Nicolas Pepe has not taken long to establish himself as a fans' favourite.

The 24-year-old arrived from French club Lille for a fee in the region of £72million and supporters were eagerly anticipating his first appearance for the Gunners.

Pepe hasn't had a huge amount of time to train this summer meaning that it was unclear whether he would make his debut on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

But he came off the bench in the second half and the Arsenal fans let him know just how they felt about him.

Here's the brilliant chant that the fans have for the winger.

Mourinho on transfers

Jose Mourinho was in the Sky Sports studio for the first time on Sunday.

And he gave his opinion on the transfer business done by Arsenal this summer.
