Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta's transfer update, defensive injury blow and FA cup opponents

It was a successful trip to the south coast for Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal side.

The Gunners made it safely into the fifth round of the FA Cup thanks to a 2-1 win over fellow Premier League side Bournemouth.

First-half goals from Arsenal youngsters Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah - his first since returning from a loan spell at Leeds United, were enough to see the team knock out Eddie Howe's side, despite Sam Surridge's 94th minute goal halving the deficit.

It is now back to the Premier League for Arsenal as they face struggling Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday.

But before that is the highly anticipated deadline day on Friday, so will the Gunners be getting any deals over the line in the next few days?

Take a look at the latest news from the Emirates Stadium here.

FA Cup opponents

Arsenal are now into the fifth round of the FA Cup, but they knew who their opponents would be before they even kicked a ball at the Vitality Stadium.

The draw was done prior to kick-off, with the Gunners being drawn away at League One side Portsmouth, who won the competition back in 2008.

That means that Mikel Arteta's side face a trip to Fratton Park in the week of Wednesday 4th March.

Defensive injury blow

While it was mainly a successful night for Arteta's men, there was one dampener on the evening, with defender Shkodran Mustafi being taken off the pitch on a stretcher in the second-half after injuring his ankle.

Should the German be on the sidelines for some time, it will leave Arsenal even more short than usual on centre-back options.

Calum Chambers is out for the rest of the season, however, David Luiz will be back and available after serving his one-match ban against the Cherries.

But could a new defender be now on his way to the Emirates Stadium?

See how the injury could affect Arteta's transfer plans here.

Arteta's transfer update

Following the match against Bournemouth, Mikel Arteta gave an update on the business that may could be done before Friday's deadline.

Pablo Mari has been the most recently linked player as the Gunners' head coach searches for reinforcements.
