Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta demands referee explanation in heated North London Derby analysis

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Friday, May 13.

Mikel Arteta's heated north London derby analysis

Mikel Arteta demanded that Paul Tierney explains his decisions following Arsenal's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham. Tierney awarded Spurs a penalty and showed Rob Holding a red cards in the north London derby.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Gunners boss refused to comment on the referees decision making and asked Tierney to comment. Arteta said: "If I say what I want to say, I will get banned for six months. I don’t like to lie and I don’t know how to lie so I will not say what I think.

"I can’t say what I think, I will be suspended. I want the referee to come out and try to explain these decisions."

"The decision is made, we cannot change it," the Spaniard added when asked for his thoughts on Holding's sending off.

Cesc Fabregas' favourite Arsenal players

Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has named his favourite four players in Mikel Arteta's current squad. Speaking to LondonWorld, the former Barcelona playmaker said: "There are three or four [players] that I really like. I sometimes feel like I'm watching myself when I first started out.

"You have the likes of Saka, Martinelli, Odegaard, Smith Rowe… it's great to see.

"Even [Eddie] Nketiah recently who has been scoring goals. Their recent performances will give them confidence."

Martinelli on Tavares

Gabriel Martinelli has named Nuno Tavares as the fastest player in Arsenal's squad. "Yeah, I am (quick) but it's not me," he told the Premier League's YouTube channel when asked if he was the quickest player in Mikel Arteta's squad. "I think it's Nuno. Nuno is really quick."

Tavares enjoyed an excellent start to his career with the Gunners after signing from Benfica last summer. However, his form has dipped in recent weeks, finding himself on the bench for last week's 2-1 win against Leeds United despite first-choice left-back Kieran Tierney being sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
