Arsenal news: Mesut Ozil sends message to Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery 'eyes' January transfer

Arsenal's struggles on the road continued at Bramall Lane on Monday night after they were beaten 1-0 by Sheffield United.

A first half goal from Lys Mousset condemned the Gunners to their second defeat of the season, and leaves major question marks hanging over Unai Emery.

Looking ahead, Arsenal will look to bounce back against Vitoria on Thursday night in the Europa League before Crystal Palace visit the Emirates on Sunday.

Here's a round-up of all the latest Arsenal news from the last 24 hours.

Granit Xhaka's message to Patrice Evra

Granit Xhaka insists Arsenal cannot rely on "bullshit" excuses about their mentality away from home to justify their performance in Monday's 1-0 defeat at Sheffield United.

Lys Mousset's goal from a first-half corner doomed Unai Emery's side to a fifth defeat in their last 10 away games in the Premier League and a result that leaves them two points off the top four after nine games of the season.

The result also prompted familiar criticism of Arsenal's mentality with  former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra describing the Gunners as "babies"  in a blistering assessment of a side he claimed he used to relish playing against.

Xhaka forcefully brushed aside those comments and insisted that Arsenal could not rely on such familiar excuses to explain their defeat at Bramall Lane.

Mesut Ozil sends timely message to Arsene Wenger

Unai Emery's side struggled to break down Sheffield United leaving many to wonder whether Mesut Ozil could have been the man to carve open Chris Wilder's side.

Ozil has become something of an outcast at the Emirates Stadium after falling out of favour under Emery, meaning that his time in North London looks likely to end sooner rather than later.

The German midfielder was brought to the club by Arsene Wenger with whom he shared a close relationship.

Sol Campbell takes Southend job

Sol Campbell has been appointed as the new manager of Southend United.

The 45-year-old, who saved Macclesfield from relegation to non-league football in his first managerial post last season, was in advanced talks with the Shrimpers, but was confirmed as the new boss on Tuesday evening.

In a club statement Southend wrote: 'Campbell will be joined with a wealth of experience including Hermann Hreidarsson (Assistant Coach), Andy Cole (Forward & Attack Coach) and Anthony Colbert (Head of Technical Football Conditioning).'

Arsenal 'interested' in Isco

According to  AS , Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Isco in January.

The report claims the Spaniard is an alternative for Arsenal if they don’t seal the permanent signing of on-loan Dani Ceballos, whilst Pep Guardiola is reportedly eyeing Isco as a successor to David Silva.
