Arsenal news: Lucas Torreira's three-match ban upheld after red card vs Tottenham

Lucas Torreira will miss three matches for Arsenal after his ban was upheld following an unsuccessful appeal by the Gunners. 

The Uruguayan was dismissed in the north London derby vs Tottenham, which finished 1-1, after a challenge on Danny Rose. 

Arsenal attempted to have the ban rescinded, but they have failed, meaning Torreira will be absent for an extended spell. 

Unai Emery will not be able to call on his midfielder in Premier League games against Manchester United (h), Newcastle (h) and Everton (a).

Though he can play in the Europa League, starting with the first leg of the last 16 tie against Rennes on Thursday. 

The Gunners are battling for a top four finish, with a point separating them from fourth-placed Man United. 

Arsenal host Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side on Sunday in a crucial game to decide whether they secure a place at the top table of European football next season.

Torreira will next be available for the Gunners in the league against Watford on April 15.
