Arsenal news: Ljungberg speaks, Mertesacker's promotion and Gilberto Silva on return rumours

After the chaos of the last few days, Arsenal may be happy to get back to matters on the pitch.

Former manager Unai Emery was shown the door on Friday morning, following the Europa League defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, with first team coach Freddie Ljungberg taking the reigns, at least temporarily.

The Swede will take charge of his first match this afternoon as the Gunners take on newly promoted Norwich City in the Premier League, Arsenal will be looking to halt a run of seven games without victory, whereas the Canaries will be aiming to move out of the relegation zone.

Daniel Farke's men recorded their first win in eight attempts in their last game, coming out as 2-0 victors against Everton.

Freddie Ljungberg speaks out

Caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg has given his first interview since taking the role after the dismissal of Unai Emery of Friday morning.

The former Arsenal player will be in charge of the team for the Premier League match vs Norwich City on Sunday afternoon, while the search for Emery's successor continues, but would the caretaker boss be interested in the role on a permanent basis?

Mertesacker joins coaching staff

While Ljungberg will be a familiar face on the touchline at Carrow Road this afternoon, there will be another person joining him who Arsenal fans may also recognise.

Arsenal announced on Saturday that former defender Per Mertesacker has been promoted to first team duties, and will be alongside Ljungberg in the dugout against Norwich.
