Arsenal appear to be closing in on Manchester City assistant coach Mikel Arteta as their lengthy search for a new permanent boss nears its conclusion.
City will not stand in Arteta's way should he wish to take the job, but it is understood the Premier League champions are not impressed with the conduct of Arsenal and will demand a seven-figure sum in compensation should the Spaniard leave.
Speculation linking the former Gunners captain with the vacancy at the Emirates Stadium has intensified after pictures emerged of Arsenal managing director Vinai Venkatesham outside Arteta's house in the early hours of Monday morning.
City do not have an issue with the 37-year-old and will allow him to make his own decision. However, that decision could still be out of Arteta's hands as Eurosport France are reporting Patrick Vieira remains the No1 choice.
