Arsenal news: Juventus star reveals how close he was to completing transfer to Arsenal

The fallout from Arsenal's 2-2 draw against Watford continues.

Two-nil up at half-time only to be pegged back in the second half thanks in most part to some daft defending from two of Unai Emery's most senior players.

Speaking of the Spaniard, he's come under fire following the result and some fans are even calling for his head . Football.london have taken a look at his work since becoming head coach to determine whether he should be under pressure.

The Gunners don't have much time to reflect on the game against the Hornets as they're back in action on Thursday.

Bundesliga outfit and last season’s Europa League semi-finalists Eintracht Frankfurt are first up as Emery’s side begin the group phase of this year’s competition.

With that said, here’s all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Ronaldo reveals how close he was to Arsenal move

(ITV)

Cristiano Ronaldo admits he was 'one step' away from joining Arsenal.

The Juventus forward was speaking in an interview with Piers Morgan on ITV, and was asked how close he actually came to playing in north London.

Former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger had previously opened up on his failure to land the Portuguese superstar.

Ronaldo was extensively scouted by Arsenal before Manchester United signed the winger from Sporting Lisbon in 2003.

Speaking on the programme, Ronaldo said: "I was one step away from joining Arsenal.

"I appreciate what Arsenal did for me, especially Arsene Wenger. They're a great club."

Bernd Leno has played down the importance of the amount of shots Arsenal faced against Watford at the weekend.

The Gunners were on the receiving end of a staggering 31 efforts at goal by the Hornets, suggesting that Unai Emery's side did fairly well to come away with a draw.

It isn't the first time that the north London side have been on the receiving end of an onslaught of efforts, having faced 25 shots in the clash with Liverpool last month.

However speaking after the game, the goalkeeper suggested that the tally isn't a fair representation of the game and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Jamie Carragher's brutal verdict on Unai Emery and Arsenal's defensive woes

(Sky Sports Monday Night Football)

Jamie Carragher has offered his diagnosis on Arsenal's defensive vulnerabilities and insisted Unai Emery inherited bad defenders.

The Gunners threw away a two-goal lead against Watford at the weekend and were lucky to escape Vicarage Road with a point in the end.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's first-half brace had put them in cruise control, only for defensive mishaps to gift the Hornets a route back into the contest.

Sokratis and David Luiz have both come under intense criticism for their roles in the collapse.

However, Carragher believes that part of the problem is down to the fact Emery inherited a poor group of defenders and that the likes of Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney have all suffered from injuries.
