Arsenal news: Huge injury scare, superb Pepe skill, Wenger's top-four claim and Luiz admission

The second international break of the season is upon us and Arsenal have gone into it sitting third in the Premier League table.

David Luiz's first goal for the club following his summer transfer from London rivals Chelsea was enough to seal a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With reigning champions Manchester City losing at home to Wolves, the Gunners find themselves in a position where they're just a point off Pep Guardiola's side.

Whether the break in the season comes at the right time remains to be seen, as head coach Unai Emery faces an anxious next couple of weeks.

The north London are next in action on October 21st as they face newboys Sheffield United at Bramall Lane and Emery will be hopeful of few injury concerns ahead of that trip.

With that said, here’s all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Pepe's brilliant skill

Nicolas Pepe has endured a difficult start to life as Arsenal's record signing.

The 24-year-old has only scored once and weighed in with three assists thus far.

But are there signs that the best of Pepe is not too far away?

Well, the 1-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend would suggest so - even though he was replaced just after the hour mark at the Emirates Stadium.

As spotted by Arsenal fans on Reddit, there was one moment where Pepe showcased just how good he can be once he's fully adjusted to life in English football.

Nelson injury scare

Reiss Nelson has pulled out of the England Under-21 squad with a knee injury.

The Arsenal winger had been called-up by Aidy Boothroyd for the upcoming internationals against Slovenia and Austria, but withdrew from the squad on Monday alongside Wolves' Morgan Gibbs-White and Manchester United's Mason Greenwood.

Nelson's withdrawal is a slight concern for Arsenal, but football.london understands the decision is precautionary more than anything else.

Furthermore, the winger should be in contention for the Gunners' trip to Sheffield United after the international break.

David Luiz transfer admission

Arsenal's match-winner at the weekend has revealed why he swapped Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium this summer.

"I always liked Chelsea, no doubt. I saw a possibility of writing a new story in a new place, but I am forever grateful to Chelsea, to all people, to friendships that are for life," Luiz told talkSPORT.

"It was an individual decision made through honest conversation – between me and Frank Lampard , no one else.

"We had a different idea of the future of the game and that’s why I chose to take a new path. It's always very difficult because of the rivalry, but I made the decision to leave Chelsea even before receiving Arsenal’s bid.

"As soon as I decided to leave Chelsea – after a few days – Arsenal’s proposal came, and as it was another great club, I didn’t think twice."

Wenger's top-four claim

Arsene Wenger has claimed that expectations in the Premier League have changed since his Arsenal exit.

The legendary Frenchman believes that a top-four finish is now more accepted.

"Every year people want something more from you. I experienced that at Arsenal, we went 20 consecutive years in the top-four but in the end it wasn’t enough," he told beIN Sports.

"Now if you get Champions League, people are very happy."
