Arsenal news: Gunners handed transfer boost as Gabriel Jesus steps up injury return

Arsenal have the chance to get their Premier League title challenge back on track when high-flying Brentford visit the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners were defeated by Everton last week in a blow to their hopes of pulling away from closest challengers Manchester City. And they head into the clash with Thomas Frank's Bees on the back of a welcome boost to their summer transfer plans.

That boost comes as Tony Pulis took aim at legendary Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and Gabriel Jesus stepped up his return from injury. Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest Arsenal news.

Jesus steps up injury return

Gabriel Jesus has returned to Arsenal's London Colney training ground as he steps up his return from injury. The striker has been ruled out since December after sustaining a problem at the World Cup.

He underwent surgery soon afterwards and has been working with the Gunners' medics since January. Mikel Arteta has refused to put a return date on Jesus, but it appears the Brazilian is stepping up his efforts to regain fitness.

Jesus has been spotted back at the Gunners' training ground on Tuesday, having attended their recent win over Manchester United. It is not yet known when he will be back to full fitness, with Eddie Nketiah deputising up-front.

Pulis takes aim at Wenger

Former West Brom manager Tony Pulis has hit out at legendary Gunners boss Arsene Wenger (GETTY)

Tony Pulis has blasted Arsene Wenger over his failure to get the best out of Serge Gnabry at Arsenal. Pulis was in charge of Gnabry during an ill-fated loan spell at West Brom, but the Welshman has blamed Wenger for failing to spot the potential of the now-Bayern Munich star.

"I always get this thrown at me, but what people forget is that we had him [Gnabry] on loan, Arsenal were his mother club, and Arsene Wenger was his manager and he sold him to Werder Bremen for £7 million," he told the Under the Cosh podcast.

"He had him right from 14 all the way through, I only had him for a couple of months. He has done fantastically well now, you have to hold your hands up, but at the time he was nowhere near it."

Gunners handed transfer boost

Arsenal have been handed a major boost to their summer transfer plans after Barcelona star Sergio Busquets made a U-turn on his future plans. Busquets is due to leave the Nou Camp at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Barca had been planning to make a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi to replace their departing captain. The Gunners have also been heavily linked with Zubimendi, who has starred amid Sociedad's impressive season.

But Busquets has now reportedly signalled his willingness to sign a new on-year contract extension to stay with Barca. That could lead Xavi to alter his plans and hand Arsenal a clear run at Zubimendi.
