Arsenal news: Gunners find secret weapon as Lionel Messi makes Thierry Henry admission

Arsenal take on FC Zurich in their final Europa League Group A fixture tonight with the aim of securing top spot in order to avoid a knockout round play-off and advance straight to the last 16.

Mikel Arteta will be expected to rotate a number of players yet again and Reiss Nelson in particular will be looking to impress once more following his remarkable cameo against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Elsewhere, Lionel Messi has revealed why he could never look Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in the eye during their playing days at Barcelona.

Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest stories coming out of the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal find their secret weapon

Arsenal have begun their Premier League campaign in superb fashion with 10 wins from their first 12 games but Arteta is still keen on recruiting more players in January in order to aid their title push.

Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have been irreplaceable on either wing but the Gunners manager knows he needs another signing to provide more depth and added competition. Yet he may have already found his answer in Nelson following his explosive cameo against Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old grabbed two goals and an assist as Saka’s replacement in the 5-0 rout. Having long been considered the next star from the Arsenal academy, it looks like he may be ready to fulfil that potential for the Gunners this season.

Lionel Messi starstruck by Thierry Henry

Paris Saint-Germain forward and Barcelona legend Messi has revealed that he could not look Henry in the eye during their days at the Camp Nou after being starstruck by the Frenchman’s arrival.

Henry joined Barca in 2007 having written his name into Premier League history and helping Arsenal claim two titles, while a 20-year-old Messi was only just beginning to make a name for himself with the Catalan outfit. Despite developing around a whole host of stars, it was Henry who made the Argentinian’s jaw drop.

"The first day he entered the dressing room, I did not dare to look him in the face," Messi previously explained to L'Equipe. "I knew everything he had done in England. I had an image of him made and suddenly we were on the same team. What I feel for Titi may be a form of admiration.”

Arsenal “frightening” Premier League opponents

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has revealed that a Nottingham Forest defender highlighted the “frightening” speed of the Gunners’ passing during their recent 5-0 defeat in north London.

Arteta’s side ran out comfortable winners last weekend to retain their place at the top of the Premier League and an unnamed Forest defender revealed to Seaman just how shocked his side were at the quality of their hosts.

Seaman said, via HITC: "I was chatting to one of the Forest defenders afterwards, I won’t name him, but he was saying that the slickness of Arsenal ’s passing and the speed of it was frightening.”
